THE GUNS AND THEIR HISTORY: BATTLE OF DRESDEN.
23 Dec 2019
Between August 26 and 27, 1813, the Battle of Dresden took place. It confronted Napoleon's army against the forces of the Sixth Coalition (Austria, Russia and Prussia). On August 16, Napoleon had sent the forces of Marshal Saint-Cyr to strengthen and block the movement of the Allied and serve as bases for their own maneuvers. On August 26, after the battles of Grossbeeren and Katzbach, Marshal Schwarzenberg, with more than 200,000 men of the Austrian army and accompanied by the Austrian emperor, the Russian tsar and the Prussian king attacked the forces of Saint-Cyr. But Napoleon got a quick and unexpected reinforcement to repel the attack.
Napoleon attacked the next day, mainly on the left flank of the allies, and won a tactical victory. But he had to withdraw suddenly from the battlefield and the persecution was not carried out so this allowed Schwarzenberg to retreat and escape the ambush. https://www.denix.co.uk/catalogue/cultures-civilizations/historical-weapons-xvi-xix-c/
